A Finish - Twilight Angel

A week at the cottage and lots of stitching got done!! Best of all, with the support and encouragement of my best friends, I finally finished my Twilight Angel.

I am kind of sick of this piece now, so it will spend a few months in a drawer before I can even consider getting it framed. I'm just glad it's done.

Angel Update 3

I had no idea how frustrating and exacting backstitching could be. I'm plugging away at it, but it's slow and I'm not enjoying it. I will admit the angel looks way better now that I've gotten more than half of the backstitching done.

Once I finish the backstitching, I still have french knots, sequins, beads, and cording to do. I might take a break for a bit on this one, just so I don't get so discouraged.

Angel Update 2

Somehow I've managed to get a lot of stitching done on my side project. Apparently traveling around the countryside visiting friends and family has been conducive to stitching. I really thought that I'd finish my project for my mom before I even got close to finishing my angel, but the reverse has happened. All of the full and half cross stitches are DONE!! Now it's just a matter of doing all the backstitch, french knots, sequins, and charms.

Being this close to finishing makes me want to press on, but I worry about not finishing my butterfly piece by my deadline. It doesn't help that I'm already thinking about which chart I'll start next!

Angel Update 1

It's amazing how much stitching you can accomplish when stuck on trains and in train stations for hours and hours on end. A two day vacation at my brother's place also allowed for some serious relaxation (aka stitching).

I took Twilight Angel on the road with me, and I am thrilled with my progress to date. I'd wager that I'm over 1/3 of the way finished. The angel's skirt is done, and I plan to move on to the head/arms/wings next.
I didn't think I'd make this much progress on this piece since my focus is on the butterfly project for my mom, but it's nice to think I might have something for my own walls sooner rather than later.

Twilight Angel (Dimensions - Gold Collection Petites)

Of course, since my main project is going to be a gift for my mother, I need a side project to work on at her place when I go to visit.

I decided to work on a smaller piece for myself. Twilight Angel is a 5" x 7" piece that has lots of fun beads, sequins, and charms to add to the design once I'm done. I spent a lot of time looking for an angel pattern that wasn't particularly religious and didn't have glowing halos or little chubby babies in it. This one suits me perfectly.

So far I've only gotten the top layer of her skirt done. I think it'll look better once it starts to actually look like something. The floss I received in my kit seems much more purple then the picture in the link shows, but that might even out with time and more stitching.
