Today's stitching did not start off as well as I'd hoped. I decided to try tenting on some of my larger, fully stitched pieces b/c I really want to get some finishes in sooner rather than later. I loved the idea of being able to stitch 2x as fast this way.
Full of high hopes, I started stitching Fractal 284 Bookmark, and after almost 200 stitches ... I HATED it. My stitches looked all funny and uneven. (Though they look better in the pic then they did in real life.)
No offense to those out there that tent, but I just can't fathom enjoying stitching an entire piece that way. This means that the other 3 pieces I was planning to tent will now be done with full crosses, and will take forever to finish. :(
So I spent an hour or so frogging out all that I'd done, and restarted using full crosses.
I'm 240 stitches in, and it looks ok. There's something about this piece (perhaps it's the fabric?) that's making me not love stitching it. This one might not get pulled out again for a while.
I agree, the cross stitch does look better. But an annoying start to UCJC.

I have never tried tent stitching. I just keep plugging away on all of my wips and let the finishes happen when they happen. I enjoy the process.
ReplyDeleteHave faith! At least you will have completed projects that you love, otherwise everytime you saw the finished tented one you would be cursing yourself! I am the same way, I tried it and didn't like it. I love the way full crosses look! Looking forward to your 29 other starts!!! And I am going to love keeping an eye on your progress! Good Luck
ReplyDeleteI also have a Fractal bookmark in my list of things to do. I was going to cheat and stitch it on black so I won't have to stitch the black parts. I wonder if that's a good idea or not. I am also using tent stitching for the first time on another project, but it's on 25 ct with 2 threads, so it covers pretty well.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is on 25 ct lugana 2 over 1 -- and the coverage was fine. Better than I had expected actually. But it was just the look of the stitches and the piece as a whole that I didn't like. :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's better to just start of than to put up with something you're unhappy with.
ReplyDeletelovely start hope you do get it done.
